I never thought I could study again after a long gap and with kids. But the excellent program design, resources, halo from peers and academic staff and flexible, easy to understand study materials has enabled me to finish my masters. I learned many new skills, like programming (Python, R, Tableau), without having a single idea about it before in a very easy and effective way. The discussion forum was an interesting way for remote students to be attached to peers and exchange ideas. The program has added great value to my skills and profile, and opened the door to many opportunities I can choose from.

A marketing analytics program is worth it if you want deeper expertise, stronger career mobility and broader job opportunities in data-driven marketing roles.
Key benefits include:
- Comprehensive capability, covering statistical methods, customer analytics, modelling and experimentation.
- Stronger recognition for analyst and insights roles that require analytical rigour.
- Greater long-term value, supporting higher earning potential and progression into specialised or leadership positions.
- Practical application, with tools and techniques taught in real marketing and business contexts.

Yes, marketing analysts are in demand. As businesses increasingly rely on data to understand consumer behavior, optimise campaigns and drive growth, the need for skilled marketing analysts continues to grow. This demand spans industries like retail, technology, finance and healthcare, making it a versatile and rewarding career path.
The main difference between a marketing analyst and a data analyst lies in their focus areas:
- Marketing Analyst: Specialises in analysing marketing data to evaluate campaign performance, understand customer behaviour and identify market trends. Their goal is to optimise marketing strategies and improve ROI.
- Data Analyst: Has a broader focus, working with data from various domains (finance, operations, healthcare, etc.) to uncover insights, solve problems and support decision-making across different business functions.
In short, marketing analysts focus on marketing-specific data, while data analysts work across a wider range of data types and industries.
A degree in marketing or general analytics can provide a strong foundation for a career in marketing analytics. Practical experience with data visualisation tools and industry certifications are also highly valued.
Your career goals will help determine the best path for you. Marketing analytics focuses on topline data needs like campaign performance and consumer trends.
UNSW, for example, offers programs that cater to both general and marketing focused analytics, allowing you to build the specific skills you need to achieve your career ambitions.
Marketing is about creating and executing strategies to promote products, build brand awareness and engage customers. Marketing analytics focuses on analysing data to measure the success of those strategies, understand customer behaviour and make data-driven improvements.
While both are related, a marketing analytics course such as the one at UNSW provides a depth of analysis that not all general marketing specialists possess. It equips you with advanced analytical skills to not only measure performance but to also predict outcomes and drive strategic decisions, setting you apart in the field.
This program is designed to equip students with the advanced technical, strategic, and communication skills needed to turn complex data into meaningful business insights. The program empowers graduates to drive evidence-based decision-making and lead organisational change. Ultimately, it opens pathways to high-demand analytics roles and accelerates career growth in a rapidly evolving, data-driven world.
